About a year ago, I sold my beloved Ensoniq SQ-80 keyboard because it was in ill-repair, and I wasn’t really using it much. It was purchased by a lovely mother & son team out in California who rehab keyboards as a hobby. Recently, I received the following email via my website:
From: C Böck Vermeer
I am writing you to let you know that I purchased your ensoniq sq-80 from Allie. It was delivered a few days ago, and I absolutely love it. I sent you a message on Instagram as well.
I am a touring musician from the usa.. idaho to be more specific. I have played in rock, punk, post punk bands for the past 30 or so years. I am starting a new musical project and embracing my inner post punk/goth/new wave side. This instrument will complete my sound and be in my family for years.
So grateful I could pick this up, and I wanted to let you know where it’s at and what it’s up to!
I kept up with the new owner on Instagram and learned that the trusty keyboard was making its way to Europe for touring and recording. Today, Christopher informed me that my SQ-80 was used extensively on these songs:
Christopher also sent me a note this morning from the airport in Warsaw, saying that he and his gear (including the SQ-80) are now heading back to the United States. He is now onboard the plane at Warsaw Chopin heading for LAX, then Boise, Idaho to finish the mixing and mastering for the demos above. His project is named “Ekko the Strange”.
Many thanks to Christopher for keeping us up to date on the happenings of my (his) beloved keyboard! Thanks also to Christopher for the cool photos I borrowed from his Instagram Feed to flavor this post! (Follow him @sea_bock_vermeer)
