Want It All: Video Creation #1

Last February I wrote a song called “Knit Hat”, named after a lyric in the first line of the song. Over the summer, I ditched the drum machine parts and had Sir Howard Windmiller play a real drum kit on the track to add more ‘human energy’ to the sound. Based on one of the first conversations I had with Kate Schell, I decided to change the name of my song from “Knit Hat” which is heard only once at the start of the song to “Want it All”, which is the line that repeats in the choruses. Thought it would make everything a little more straightforward. Sticky and memorable.

I’ve been working with my wife Maureen to put a music video together for the tune. Part of the video required me to set up a green screen and lights in our apartment. We have a 10′ x 20′ muslin green screen, but that was overkill for a shot that just required a ‘talking head’ in the frame, so I went over to JoAnn Fabrics on Elston and bought a couple yards of bright green cloth, and thumbtacked it to our wall.

I was in a creative mood, and decided to take video of the setup. Lately I’ve enjoyed shooting these ‘behind-the-scenes’ videos. The song is totally done and the music video shouldn’t be too far behind. Stay tuned for more…
