RPM 2018 Begins in Two Days!

The RPM Challenge happens every February. Similar to Inktober (for visual artists in October) and NaNoWriMo (for novel writers in November), the RPM Challenge encourages artists to write and record 10 songs within the 28 days of February. I did this successfully three years ago; the fruits of which resulted in my Accidents and Melodies album, as well as the Astrid and the Killer Penguin EP. In 2016, I stopped short with only four songs, but it did yield the single Dogstar which was a total gem IMO. (I skipped the 2017 challenge completely.)

I’m currently putting together a full-length album called Reality Jockey for release in the Spring of 2018. I already have 7 songs completed, and 5 that are half way done. After February, I hope to have 10 more songs on my list. I have high hopes for RPM, but can’t guarantee that 100% will be album quality like the first year I did it. I figure that come March I will have a list of 22 songs to choose from for the new album.

I will be making daily updates in the journal section of this website and am also thinking about having a streaming track of the day’s work. I have mixed feelings about this. What do you think? Does presenting the raw, unfinished tracks online detract from the magic of a completely finished product? Or should I “show my work”? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Thanks much, and I’ll write again Thursday night with the results of RPM Challenge 2018 Day 1!
